Services » Admission Information

Understandably you may have some concerns about the planned procedure. This information sheet will hopefully answer some of your questions.

Most surgical cases are treated as ‘day cases’ so they can return home the same evening. Occasionally however it is advisable to keep pets hospitalised.

All anaesthetics and procedures carry an element of risk, although generally very small. We aim to minimise these risks in a number of ways:
• A thorough examination by a Vet to identify possible problems.
• Pre-anaesthetic blood sampling is available. This is recommended especially for ill and older pets. Please read the attached information sheet.

There are some things you can do to reduce the anaesthetic risk and to help us provide the best possible care:
• Please do not feed your cat or dog after 9pm the evening before.
• Small pets like rabbits and guinea pigs do not need starving
• Do not limit access to water, unless advised to do so.
• Try to ensure your pet has gone to the toilet before bringing him or her in.
• Try to ensure that your pet has a clean coat, i.e. not muddy.
• Provide us with a contact number so we can contact you if we need to.

Price guide

You will have been given a price guide for the procedure from the vet who has seen you and your pet. If this is not the case then please ask for a guide when you bring your pet in. We are unable to give exact quotes due to the nature of our work. The price for surgical procedures include two post operative checks, further checks, if necessary, will carry additional costs. The cost for non-surgical investigative procedures does not include post operative checks.

Going home

Please phone the practice between 2:30 and 3:00 pm to check on your pet’s progress, and to find out when he or she can be collected.
A nurse or vet will discuss aftercare when you come to collect your pet.

Payment

We expect payment at time of collection. If you have pet insurance please discuss the method of payment prior to the procedure being performed.
